The conflicts took a far greater toll in the countries where they were waged, with untold thousands of combatants and civilians losing their lives. Our country went to battle in the aftermath of 9\/11, &#8230; the so-called global war on terror&#8230; an expansive term, affording American leaders\u2019 significant latitude in determining what was permissible in the pursuit and even the definition of victory\u2014not to mention justifying the reasons for going to war in the first place. Was it to protect \u201cthe homeland\u201d or bring terrorists to justice, to establish liberal democracies or deter a \u201cmadman\u201d? \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Commonweal Conversations is a program promoting thoughtful, expansive, intelligent dialogue on issues that matter \u2013 whether political, theological, cultural, or artistic. We encourage all participants to offer their opinions respectfully while also generously considering opinions that do not match their own. We learn by listening to others. All conversations will be virtual. Please register for each date separately and you will receive articles to read when you register.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This program will be presented via Zoom only.
